Dual-camera recording for iPhone
Record the Track and Your Reaction at the Same Time
PinIt Cam runs both iPhone cameras at once. The rear camera films the circuit ahead, the front camera films you, and both are stored as one synced session with your lap times, GPS speed and G-force — built for track days, not vlogging.
Can an iPhone record the front and back cameras at the same time?
Yes — on iPhone XS and later. Those iPhones can run the front and rear cameras simultaneously, and PinIt Cam is built around that. You don’t get two separate clips to line up in an editor afterwards: you get one recording in which both views are already in sync with each other and with the telemetry.
On the rear camera you can choose ultra-wide (0.5×), wide (1×) or telephoto (2×), depending on what your iPhone has. For all three lens options, iPhone 12 Pro or later is recommended.
Why the driver camera matters
Onboard footage on its own is a road disappearing under the bonnet. It shows where you went, not what it felt like. The reaction camera is the other half of the story: the concentration on the way into the braking zone, the grin on the exit, the moment you realise the car is going somewhere you didn’t ask it to.
Put the two side by side and the clip makes sense to anyone watching — including the friends who weren’t there.
Choose the layout afterwards
Mount your phone portrait or landscape — PinIt Cam detects which way up it is when you start recording. Then decide how it looks when you export, not before you drive:
- Split screen. Track and driver, 50/50. The full story in one frame.
- Picture-in-picture. The full track view with a floating driver window.
- Track only. Pure forward view with the telemetry overlay.
- Driver only. All about the reactions.
Each layout exports in 9:16 vertical for stories and reels or 16:9 widescreen for YouTube.
Synced with the telemetry
Both cameras share one timeline with the GPS and motion data, so the overlay on your footage — speed, G-force, distance, session time and a live track map — lines up with what you see. At the 107 supported circuits your laps are timed automatically, and on 74 of them the highlights are named by corner. Everything PinIt Cam does at a track day.
No separate action camera
Two action cameras, two mounts, two batteries, two memory cards, and an evening lining up the footage — or one iPhone that does it in a single recording. PinIt Cam also works with no mobile signal, and everything stays on your phone: no account, no cloud. How PinIt Cam handles your data.
Two cameras at once is hard work for any phone. PinIt Cam’s capture settings were chosen by testing in a hot car, and on a long, sunny stint it helps to use airplane mode, keep the phone out of direct sun and take the case off. If iOS does step in, everything recorded up to that moment is saved.
Film the circuit and yourself, together.
Free on the App Store for iPhone XS or later. Every feature is in the free app; Pro is a one-time purchase that lifts the monthly export limit.
